Kade heisler is a 10-year goalie for the Carstairs Bruins U11 hockey team in Alberta. On Tuesday, he went to see the Calgary Flames play the Colorado Avalanche and left the Scotiabank Saddledome with a memory of a lifetime. Heisler brought along a big yellow sign that read, “Wolf, you are my idol,” in reference to Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf.
A Flames staffer spotted the sign and told wolf about it in between the first and second periods. During a stoppage in play, one of Wolf’s sticks was handed to a security guard in Heisler’s section to give to the young goalie. That moment set off a wave of emotion inside Heisler.
wolf said afterward he tries not to look into the crowd during games in order to stay focused. But when he was told about Heisler’s sign, he made sure to give the fellow goalie something to remember. “I didn’t get to see, but it sounds like he had a pretty good night,” Wolf said of Heisler’s reaction.
Sportsnet’s Eric Francis went down to speak to Heisler after the video started circulating online and the young boy said he was “very thankful” to get the stick from Wolf. “That’s awesome,” Wolf said when told the video went viral. “That’s what the game is all about, for the kids.
We mean a lot to them. It’s neat to be able to make a kid’s day like that.”
